Cynthia Shelton, CRE, director, Investment Sales, Colliers International, Orlando, Fla., received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Realtors® at their Annual Convention in San Diego in November. The Distinguished Service Award, established in 1979, honors Realtors® who have made outstanding contributions to the real estate industry while also serving as leaders in their local communities. “I was honored and humbled to be selected to be a DSA. The group only selects two members a year out of 1.2 million, and only 88 since 1979,” said Shelton, who has been a Realtor® for 40 years. During this period she has served as regional vice president, a liaison to five NAR presidents, and has chaired several committees. Shelton was invited to membership in The Counselors in Spring 2006.
Garth Dunklin, CRE, manager, BassDunklin, Charlotte, N.C., and Maribel Koella, CRE, owner/founder/principal broker, NAI Knoxville, Knoxville, Tenn., were also honored in November at the 2015 Realtors Conference & Expo in San Diego. Dunklin has been elected the 2015 Chairman of the North Carolina Rules Review Commission. Koella was awarded the 2014 CCIM Impact award, given to developers who have had the greatest impact on commercial real estate in the past year.
Robert Bach, CRE, national director, market analytics, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, Chicago, Ill., spoke at the 7th Annual Bisnow State of the Market Chicago event on October 29. At the event he shared his thoughts on the 2016 leasing market, millennials, and the outlook for the Chicago real estate market over the next 12-18 months.
Robert Nahigian, CRE, principal, Auburndale Realty Company, Newton, Mass., spoke at the Prologis regional event in Jessup, Md., on October 22. Nahigian discussed global logistics and the supply chain future through his program “From Shanghai to Your Shelf.” Nahigian discussed the five intermodals; the changes with the Suez and Panama Canals; the advantages and disadvantages of east coast ports, rail, air and trucking systems; 3pls; and logistic hubs. He also shared the mathematical regression models that internal real estate departments engage to develop an industrial real estate decision on site and facility options in the marketplace.
James Costello, CRE, senior vice president, Real Capital Analytics, New York, N.Y., spoke at the Commercial Economic Issues & Trends forum at the 2015 NAR Conference in San Diego. His presentation focused on global and U.S. investment trends, capital markets and emerging issues.
Jon Yamaguchi, CRE, president, CEO, Yamaguchi & Yamaguchi, Inc., Honolulu, Hawaii, was a moderator at the 2015 Housing Summit “Houseless in Honolulu: How Policymakers and Business can Restore a Healthy Housing Market at all Price Points” hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and the Building Industry Association of Hawaii. Yamaguchi moderated a panel, titled “Increase Supply of Housing,” that featured several TOD developers who discussed opportunities along the rail transit corridor that might provide housing solutions. A recent Study by the State of Hawaii’s Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism estimates that 66,000 homes will be needed in the state by the year 2025.
