"The Devil in the White City" Tour
and Lunch at Rhapsody
The tour will give attendees a fascinating look at murder, magic
and madness during the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, based on
Erik Larson's NY Times bestselling book, "The Devil in
the White City." Attendees will be dazzled with tales of
the best and worst of the Gilded Age in Chicago. They will visit
the original sites of the World's Fairgrounds, including a stop
at the Wooded Island designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, and
a visit to the Osaka Gardens and the Midway Plaisance. Attendees
will also see the Palace of Fine Arts and the replica of the
statue of the republic. A knowledgeable and high energy guide
will narrate and point out significant buildings along the way,
culminating in a tour of historic Prairie Avenue and the Glessner
House. Attendees will lunch at one of Chicago’s top restaurants,
Rhapsody, and will also receive their own autographed copy of
the bestseller, "The Devil in the White City." |

Event: Chicago Skyline Dinner Cruise†
Sponsored
by the Midwest Chapter
A frequent saying in Chicago is that the
best way to see the city's many architectural wonders is to
see them from the water! To that end, the Monday evening event
at Midyear will be a skyline dinner cruise on one of Chicago's
newest cruise line -- Kanan Cruises. The private cruise will
begin with a half hour reception to allow attendees to explore
the vessel, or relax in the beautiful piano lounge complete
with grand piano, comfortable leather sectionals, plasma screen
TV's and cocktail tables around a fabulously appointed mahogany
bar. Wine and appetizers will be served as guests settle in.
After everyone is on board the vessel will set sail for a two
and a half hour cruise along the shore of Lake Michigan with
the spectacular Chicago skyline as the backdrop. A buffet dinner
will be served. The vessel has four enclosed decks which are
heated, with indoor and outdoor seating. |
