Business Issues Breakfast Forums

Choose The Forum That Matches Your Specialty

Attend a Business Issues Forum to discuss key developments and issues in your area of expertise. Or, if you’re curious, attend a Forum to learn more about a particular specialty and how to include it in the cadre of services you provide. Either way, you’ll find intimate small-group discussions that are highly candid and thought-provoking—providing insights and professional contacts that will endure long after the CRE 2009 Annual Convention. This is your opportunity to interact with CRE colleagues. Voice opinions. Ask questions. Share experiences. Consider new approaches and applications. It’s all among friends, in the intimate trusted environment that is the hallmark of The Counselors of Real Estate.

Some Forums will have invited guest presenters to stimulate discussion. Each Forum will leverage knowledge and ideas from every person in the room, making for an exceptionally rich and multi-dimensional experience.

Choose from four Business Issues Forums
Capital Markets
Corporate Real Estate
Litigation Services
Public/Private Partnerships

Reserve your space in the Forum of your choice when you register for the Annual Convention.

Corporate Real Estate Forum
Taking Best Practices to Next Practices for Corporate Clients

This Forum is a Peer-to-Peer opportunity to discuss openly how to work within the ever changing corporate real estate structure. Included will be candid discussion about what is working and what is not, and an emphasis on transition from Best Practices to Next Practices in helping corporations sift through their real estate portfolio. Forum attendees will discuss the value of a corporate lease to landlords in providing the credit backbone for project financing. Discussion will also include the importance of the corporate tenants’ need to do their due diligence homework on existing and prospective landlords.

Forum Co-Chairs: Joseph McGauley, CRE and Martha O’Mara, CRE

Capital Markets Forum
Issues-Based Dialogue on Credit and Landlord Topics

In this popular Forum, discussion will focus on issues and opportunities raised by speakers in the General Sessions during the first day of the Annual Convention. This is the most-current, most-topical dialogue on capital markets, conducted in peer-group discussions with fellow Counselors. The Forum will be a moderated roundtable format with free-flowing information sharing. Also included will be questions and issues submitted to CRE by past Forum attendees.

Forum Chair: Julie McIntosh, CRE

Litigation Services Forum
Nuances of Real Estate Legal Issues in Different U.S. Jurisdictions

Guests from different major cities of the U.S. will form a distinguished panel that will discuss the subtle differences, interpretations and customs in their regions regarding ad valorem taxation, eminent domain and property rights. The session will also include ample time for questions from the audience, to create a true Forum dialogue and learning experience.

Guest Speakers:
Julie S. Mebane, Esq., CRE, Partner, Duane Morris LLP, San Diego, CA
Edward Dirk Wegmann, Partner, Jones Walker, New Orleans, LA
Samuel M. Scoggins, Esq., CRE, Member, Frost Brown Todd LLC, Cincinnati, OH

Public/Private Partnerships Forum
Issues-Based Dialogue on Current Important Topics

Along with discussion among Forum attendees, guest speakers will present their perspectives on the most current topics in the Public Private Partnership arena. Highlights will include use of tax increment financing, infrastructure needs that have been met as the result of successful PPPs, transot-oriented development and a look at where TARP money has been spent so far in this sector. Open dialogue among members and speakers will make this a richly informative session.
