Wilkes Elected 2010 Chair of The Appraisal Foundation
David Wilkes, Esq., CRE,
FRICS, partner, Huff Wilkes
LLP, Tarrytown, N.Y., has
been elected 2010 chairman
of The Appraisal Foundation,
based in Washington, D.C.
The Appraisal Foundation,
through its Appraisal Standards Board, produces
the Uniform Standards of Professional
Appraisal Practice (USPAP), and is authorized
by Congress as the source of appraisal
standards and appraiser qualifications. In
2009, Wilkes headed a special task force that
approved a historic new Appraisal Practices
Board that will provide appraisers and state
regulators nationwide with needed guidance
on recognized methods and techniques on a
range of valuation issues.

Weinberg Wins AUREO Award
Susan Carlson Weinberg,
CRE, director of real estate
for the University of
Minnesota, recently received
the first annual Weinberg
Award at the Association of
University Officials’
(AUREO) 2009 annual meeting and conference
in Montreal. The award, named for
Weinberg, recognizes individuals for their
significant lifetime career contributions to
the profession of higher education in real
estate and for advancing the professional
development of the real estate function within
higher education. Weinberg is one of the
founding members of AUREO and has
served twice as its president.

Celen Addresses European Organizations
Güniz Çelen, CRE, CEO,
chairperson, Çelen Corporate
Property Valuation &
Counseling Inc., Istanbul,
Turkey, recently spoke at
Expo Real, Munich, about
the recent valuation and real
estate market environment of Turkey. She
also spoke at the Investment Locations
Forum on Europe and the Middle East
on real estate project development and
financing, and geographical diversification.

Liljedahl Addresses Women's Construction Group
Richard C. Liljedahl, CRE,
Net Lease Capital Advisors,
Farmington, Conn., recently
spoke to a local chapter of
Professional Women in
Construction in Hartford,
Conn., about available
sources of funding for real estate in the
Hartford-area market. Liljedahl said that
because Hartford is a smaller market, as
compared to a major metropolitan city like
New York, “deals” are smaller, and capital is
easier to obtain.

Glanville Addresses New PERE Real Estate Forum
Brian Glanville, CRE, MAI,
FRICS, managing director,
Integra Realty Resources,
Portland, Ore., was part of a
panel that addressed participants
at the recent, first-ever
PERE Real Estate CFOs
Forum, held in New York City. Glanville’s
panel discussed valuation issues in distressed
markets, including public versus private
valuation, best practices in valuation,
and the challenges of assessing value when
there are no public market comparables. The
Forum is a new, collaborative peer-to-peer
event for chief financial officers and members
of the finance, compliance, operational
and capital markets arenas.
