Turkey, recently spoke at
Expo Real, Munich, about
the recent valuation and real
estate market environment of Turkey. She
also spoke at the Investment Locations
Forum on Europe and the Middle East
on real estate project development and
financing, and geographical diversification.

Deal's Opinion Published in Houston Chronicle
In September, the Houston
Chronicle published an opinion
on proposed Texas legislation
written by Matthew C.
Deal, CRE, of Deal Sikes &
Associates in Houston. Deal
wrote that the proposed
legislation, which would tighten the reins on
the government’s ability to acquire private
property for public use upon payment of just
compensation, should be supported. In
November, voters approved this proposition
in the statewide election. Deal’s company,
formed earlier this year, is a real estate
valuation and counseling firm that provides
acquisition and counseling solutions for
public and private sector clients nationwide.

Stephens Elected Vice President of Appraisal Institute
Sara W. Stephens, CRE, MAI was elected Appraisal Institute vice president Saturday by the Board of Directors. Her term begins Jan. 1, 2010.
Stephens has been active at the chapter, regional and national levels. She served two terms as president of the Arkansas Chapter, is the chapter’s current Education Committee chair and has served as both chair and member of the Nominating Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. She attended the Leadership Development Advisory Council three years and was chosen to return a fourth year as a discussion leader. Her topic focused on the designation requirements of the Appraisal Institute.

Nahigian Addresses Two Conferences
Rob Nahigian, CRE, FRICS,
SIOR, principal, Auburndale
Realty Company, Newton,
Mass., recently spoke at the
Massachusetts Association of
Realtor’s State Convention
and at the national fall convention
of the Society of Industrial and
Office Realtors in Toronto (SIOR). At the
Realtors State Convention, Nahigian spoke
on commercial real estate basics and commercial
leasing. At the SIOR convention, he
offered an educational session that dealt
with concepts of wealth building, asset allocation,
types of developers, pro formas, soft
and hard costs, and financial analysis.

Prouty Chairs 2009 Tucson Airport Authority
Timothy J. Prouty, CRE,
managing director, CB
Richard Ellis Inc., Tucson,
Ariz., assumed the chairmanship
of the Tucson
Airport Authority (TAA) earlier
this year. TAA is a nonprofit
organization comprised of 115 residents
of Pima County, Ariz., and manages
the operations of Tucson International
Airport and general aviation airport, Ryan
Field. Prouty was named to the Authority’s
board of directors in 2001. His term as
chairman is for one year.

Hedden and Powell Lead National Teleconference
CREs Michael P. Hedden, managing
director, American Appraisal Associates,
Inc., New York City; and George W. Powell,
Jr., Esq., attorney, Duane Morris LLP,
Miami, recently led a national teleconference
on the topic of temporary construction and
preservation easements. Sponsored by
Lorman Education Services, the conference
focused on content presented by Hedden
and Powell with the goal of educating
property owners and attorneys about how,
within the context of eminent domain
takings, to value state and local easements to
ensure they are receiving just compensation.
